A jury in a Nevada court awarded $5.2 billion in damages in the last major lawsuit against a Las Vegas-based former bottled water company found responsible for causing liver damage in customers before its products were recalled from store shelves in 2021. According to records from the Clark County District Court, the 12-day trial in the negligence and product liability case against AffinityLifestyles.com Inc. and the Real Water brand concluded with a verdict on Wednesday. The jury awarded approximately $230 million in compensatory damages and $5 billion in punitive damages to Hunter Brown and several other plaintiffs. COMPENSATION MAY BE APPEALEDWill Kemp, the attorney representing the plaintiffs, stated in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he expects Real Water's insurance company to contest the payments due to the company's bankruptcy filing.
