Yakup Aydar and his family, who visited Anıtkabir from Manisa, were scammed out of 4,500 lira under the pretense that their parked car would be repaired. The family realized something was wrong when they saw the suspect removing parts from the car on security camera footage and subsequently filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office.
Yakup Aybar, who came from Manisa with his wife and children to visit Anıtkabir, was defrauded of 4,500 TL by a person who dismantled his parked car and then repaired it. Aybar filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office with the footage captured by the security camera showing the suspect dismantling parts from the car.
THE TRIP TO ANITKABIR ENDED WITH FRAUD
Yakup Aybar came to Ankara to visit Anıtkabir with his wife Lütfiye Aybar and their children on May 19, the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day. Aybar parked his car on Anıttepe Turgutreis Street. When the Aybar family returned after their visit to Anıtkabir, the car wouldn't start. At that moment, a person who introduced himself as a car mechanic approached them and said he could repair the vehicle.
THEY PAID 4,500 LIRA TO THE PERSON WHO SUPPOSEDLY REPAIRED THE FAULT
Yakup Aybar gave 4,500 lira to the person who started the car, took it to the industrial zone, and supposedly repaired the fault. Suspecting the situation, Aybar reviewed the security camera footage from the area where he parked the car before leaving Ankara. In the footage from a nearby association's security camera, he noticed the person posing as a mechanic approaching his car and bending down to dismantle a part from the fender.
Aybar filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office along with the relevant footage. In his petition, Aybar stated, "Encountering such a thing when we came to visit our ancestor negatively affected us. We are plaintiffs against the person or persons who defrauded us by trapping us."
"WE OBTAINED THE CAMERA FOOTAGE"
Lütfiye Aybar expressed that they were in great shock due to experiencing such an event during their visit to Anıtkabir, saying, "The person introduced himself to us as a mechanic. He said there was a 'fault in the air idle sensor' in the vehicle and took us to the industrial zone. Later, this man called another friend to join him and took my wife along to a spare parts shop. When they came back to us, he installed the part he had bought into the car and started it. He demanded a total of 4,500 lira from us, 3,500 lira for the part and 1,000 lira for labor. They did not accept card payments. My wife and I went to the ATM. We gave the person 4,500 lira in cash from the ATM. We became suspicious and went to the parking lot. We accessed the camera footage. The person who repaired our car got out of a vehicle with the license plate 06 FDE 114, looked around, then bent down under the right fender and either pulled or disconnected a cable. That’s when we realized we had been defrauded."
"THEY TRAP PEOPLE"
Lütfiye Aybar stated that others might have been defrauded in the same way, saying, "They have become experts in this. They trap the drivers of cars with foreign plates that come to visit Anıtkabir. Do not be deceived. Your car actually has no problem at all. After returning to Manisa, we sent our complaint petition to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. It is very sad that such an event occurred right at the foot of Anıtkabir. People come there to visit our ancestor and end up facing such a situation, ruining their holidays. We want the perpetrators to face justice as soon as possible."
