A tragic accident occurred off the coast of Sumatra. Italian surfer Giuliana Manfrini (36) lost her life after a swordfish jumped out of the water and impaled her heart while she was surfing. The incident took place off the coast of Pulau Masokut Island, where the fish's beak penetrated the surfer's chest to a depth of 5 centimeters. Despite the quick intervention of her friends Massimo Ferro and Alexandre Ribas, Manfrini, who was taken to a nearby clinic, could not be saved. Manfrini, a co-founder of Awave Travel and a professional surfing instructor, was known on social media as a "surf and ski travel expert." The successful surfer, who graduated in law, had written in her last Instagram post, "See you in two weeks." Fabio Giulivi, the Mayor of Venaria Reale, stated, "As a whole city, we stand by Giulia's family. This early farewell has deeply shaken us all." The surfing company Naa Laut Mentawai Blue in Indonesia shared a message saying, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our always smiling, happy friend Giulia." While the Siberut Police Department has launched an investigation into the incident, the surfing community and fans continue to share condolence messages on social media.
