In Adana, Şemsettin Erkuvan, who killed his mother Şenay and his daughters Gaye and Güldane Gerçek, was captured during a special operations raid while hiding in a burrow belonging to a 'hedgehog' nest. In his statement, Erkuvan confessed that he committed the atrocity because he blamed his son Muzaffer Erkuvan's death. He said, "I was angry, I couldn't hold back and I shot."

In Adana, Güldane Gerçek, a mother of one child, left Muzaffer Erkuvan, with whom she lived in a religious marriage, due to severe incompatibility and moved into a Women's Shelter. On August 24, Erkuvan went to the house of Güldane's mother, Şenay Gerçek, in the Menekşe neighborhood of Sarıçam district to reconcile. When Güldane Gerçek rejected the reconciliation offer, Muzaffer Erkuvan went outside and hanged himself from a tree. The Erkuvan family held Güldane, her mother Şenay, and her sister Gaye Gerçek responsible for Muzaffer Erkuvan's death.

MASSACRE AT THE CEMETERY

Şenay, Güldane, and Gaye Gerçek visited Muzaffer Erkuvan's grave at Buruk Cemetery in Sarıçam district around 4:00 PM on October 21. Muzaffer Erkuvan's father, Şemsettin Erkuvan, followed the mother and her two daughters due to his animosity over his son's suicide. While the mother and daughters were sitting on benches near the prayer stone in the cemetery, Şemsettin Erkuvan approached on a motorcycle, opened fire with a gun, and fled. It was determined that Şenay, Güldane, and Gaye Gerçek, who were shot in the head, lost their lives.

CAUGHT WHILE HIDING IN A HOLLOW

A special team established within the Homicide Bureau started working to capture Şemsettin Erkuvan. After a tip-off to the Sarıçam District Police Department, homicide detectives determined that the suspect was hiding in a forest in the Göztepe neighborhood of Sarıçam. The homicide teams, supported by the Counter-Terrorism and Special Operations teams, conducted a search in the area. Erkuvan was caught while hiding in a hollow on the slope with the gun he used in the murder.

"I WAS ANGRY, I COULDN'T HELP BUT SHOOT"

It was revealed that Şemsettin Erkuvan, who was taken to the Public Order Branch, had arranged a place to hide before the murder and stocked food and spare clothes in the hollow on the slope to sustain himself. In his interrogation, Erkuvan said, "The 3 women I shot are responsible for my son's death. Therefore, I held a grudge against them. On the day of the incident, I happened to pass by the cemetery on my motorcycle. I was angry, I couldn't help but shoot. After that, I went to the forested area and hid."
