The FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) has requested assistance from local sources using an "aged photo" that reflects the current age of American journalist Austin Tice, who went missing in Syria. A REWARD OF 1 MILLION DOLLARS WILL BE GIVENIn a statement made by the FBI, an aged photo reflecting Tice's current age, who would be 43 years old today if alive, was shared. The statement indicated that if the journalist, who has been missing in Syria since 2012, is alive, he would look like he does in the photo, and it was mentioned that a reward of 1 million dollars would be given to anyone providing information that helps locate Tice. Austin Tice's mother, Debra Tice, stated last week that there is very strong evidence that her son is alive and that they have been in constant contact with the U.S. government on this matter. On the same day, the family met with officials at the White House and the State Department, calling on everyone involved to help find their son as soon as possible. The U.S. government has recently stated that they are working with local elements in both Turkey and Syria to locate Tice. KIDNAPPED IN SYRIAAustin Tice was kidnapped on August 14, 2012, at a checkpoint near Damascus while covering the Syrian civil war as a freelance journalist. A video was released some time later showing Tice being held by armed and unidentified individuals with his eyes blindfolded; however, no group has claimed responsibility for his kidnapping to date. In 2022, the U.S. State Department held direct talks with Syrian officials to secure Tice's release, but no clear information regarding the American journalist's whereabouts or condition has emerged so far.
