The figure is not just any figure! The salary increase for Members of Parliament and ministers has been determined.

After the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Vedat Işıkhan, closed the doors to a temporary increase in the minimum wage, the dreams of millions of workers were shattered. As the purchasing power of citizens decreases, they struggle to make ends meet, while there will be a significant increase in the salaries of members of parliament and ministers.

The Turkish Statistical Institute announced the inflation figures for the month of June. In June, monthly inflation came in at 1.64%, the lowest level in a year. SSI and Bağkur retirees with a basic salary of 8,000 TL or less face the threat of 'zero increase', while doors for interim increases for minimum wage workers have also closed. Ministers and members of parliament, on the other hand, are expected to receive an increase of approximately 28,000 TL in July.

76,000 TL INCREASE IN 1 YEAR

According to a report in Sözcü, the amount of increase in ministerial salaries in the past year reached 76,000 TL. A minister's salary has been raised from 8.5 times the minimum wage to 10 times the minimum wage, and from 14.5 times the retiree pension to 17.3 times the retiree pension.

EQUIVALENT TO 17 TIMES THE MINIMUM WAGE

The income of those receiving both ministerial salaries and parliamentary retiree pensions has increased from 241,000 TL to 288,000 TL with a 47,000 TL increase. Ministers' salaries have now reached 17 times the minimum wage with the July increase. Members of parliament are expecting a 27,398 TL increase.

ZERO INCREASE THREAT FOR 4 MILLION RETIREES

According to the inflation figures for the past 6 months, retirees will receive a 24.73% increase and civil servants will receive a 19.31% increase. However, based on these rates, approximately 4 million retirees may not receive any increase.

BASIC SALARY DETAILS

Retirement increases are determined based on the basic salary. Currently, the lowest retirement pension is 10,000 TL. Retirees with a pension below 10,000 TL receive a monthly allowance from the government to reach 10,000 TL. There has been no official announcement regarding the update of the minimum retirement pension. If the government does not make an update to the minimum retirement pension, retirees with a basic salary of 8,000 TL or less will receive zero increase. Their pensions will remain at 10,000 TL.
