The words of MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, who said, "If the isolation is lifted, let Abdullah Öcalan come and speak at the DEM Party Group Meeting in the Grand National Assembly," caused great astonishment within the DEM Party as well. Sources from the DEM Party commented on Bahçeli's statements, saying, "We did not expect this much; he made a historic speech."

From DEM Party sources, it was reported that MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli said, "If the isolation of the terrorist leader is lifted, let him speak at the DEM Party group meeting in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Let him proclaim that terrorism has ended. If he shows this determination, let the legal arrangement be opened to the fullest. Let the address extend from İmralı to DEM, and let the issue be removed from the country's agenda. We are ready for this challenge, we are even prepared to endure this."
