A new era has begun in Syria with the end of the 61-year Baath regime and the departure of Bashar al-Assad from the country.
The first move from Syria, which started with the visit of MIT President Ibrahim Kalın to Damascus and was later initiated by Turkey reopening its Consulate General in Damascus, has been made.
FIRST VISIT FROM THE NEW SYRIAN ADMINISTRATION
It is expected that the new Foreign Minister of Syria, Asaad Shibani, Defense Minister Mirhaf Ebu Kisra, and Intelligence Chief Enes Hattab will make an official visit to Turkey tomorrow. This visit is seen as an important step towards improving relations between the two countries.
One of the most important agenda items in the discussions is expected to be the terrorist threat in northern Syria. Turkey is also anticipating discussions with officials from the Damascus government regarding the details of a major operation against the terrorist organization PKK-YPG.
ERDOĞAN: EITHER THE WEAPONS WILL BE BURIED, OR THOSE AIMING WEAPONS AT US WILL BE BURIED
In a recent statement, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, "Either the weapons aimed at our country will be buried, or those who aim weapons at Turkey will be buried. There is no third option."
After high-level officials from Turkey met with the leader of the new Syrian administration, Ahmed Shara, European bureaucrats also began their visits to Damascus.
