The former co-mayor of Tunceli has been arrested.

The former co-chair of the DEM Party, Birsen Orhan, reported that she was detained. Orhan had been released on "house arrest conditions" on November 24. Today, she announced her detention through a post on her social media account.

ARRESTED

It was announced that Orhan was arrested by the court she was brought before. The charges against Orhan were stated as "Violation of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations" and "Resistance to Preventing the Performance of Duty."

FIRST STATEMENT FROM THE DEM PARTY

Following Orhan's arrest, DEM Party Tunceli MP Ayten Kordu made a statement on her social media account. Kordu stated, "A detention order has been issued for our co-chair of Dersim Municipality, Birsen Orhan. This decision is the most concrete manifestation of lawlessness," and added, "Issuing a detention order on the suspicion of fleeing house arrest is a clear indication of the political decisions that the judiciary is acting upon. Your policies that impose submission on us through trustees are rotten and bankrupt. You cannot hinder our struggle for democracy with arrests and pressures against democratic forces, the people, and co-chairs of municipalities. We will respond to these attacks on the will of the people and the women's struggle by organizing even more. Detained co-chairs and our friends must be released, and the will of the people must be respected."
