Ahead of the 1st Ordinary Congress to be held on November 14-15 in the New Party, the preliminary election for the party chairmanship has begun. In the election in which Özgür Özel is the only candidate, voting, which started at 09:00 at 3,000 ballot boxes set up in 81 provinces, will end at 17:00. As party members headed to the polls, Chairman Özgür Özel also cast his vote. At the congress, in addition to the chairman, an 80-member Party Council and a 15-member High Disciplinary Board will be elected.
In the New Party, voters went to the polls today for the general chairmanship primary election. Voting began at 09:00 at a total of 3,000 ballot boxes set up at the party’s provincial and district offices in 81 provinces. In the primary, in which everyone who became a party member before November 5 can vote, current General Chair Özgür Özel is running as the sole candidate. Polls will close at 17:00 in the election, where high turnout by party members is expected.
ÖZGÜR ÖZEL CAST HIS VOTE
Özgür Özel, who is participating in the general chairmanship primary as the sole candidate, also went to the ballot box and cast his vote. Emphasizing the importance of consulting members’ preferences before the congress, Özel had stated in an earlier statement that they had created a new system in which members would have a say in intra-party decision-making processes. Özel invited members to participate in the primary with the words, "Come, let’s take the first big step of new-generation politics together."
3,000 BALLOT BOXES SET UP IN 81 PROVINCES
In the ordinary congress process that began in the New Party on August 26, primaries were also held to determine provincial and district administrations. After the primaries, first held with members’ votes, the congresses were completed with delegate votes. While a similar method is being applied for the general chairmanship, party members are participating in the process today by voting directly.
HE ANNOUNCED A WORK PROGRAM WITH 17 HEADINGS
Before the primary, Özgür Özel announced a work program consisting of 17 headings for the new period. The goals of expanding the party’s social support, increasing members’ participation in decision-making mechanisms, and forming cadres ready for power stood out in the program.
In the roadmap announced by Özel, determining the party’s presidential candidate in the first elections and obtaining a majority in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey were also among the goals.
PARTY LEADERSHIP WILL BE DETERMINED AT THE CONGRESS
The New Party’s 1st Ordinary Congress will be held on November 14-15. More than a thousand delegates will vote at the congress, which will last two days. The delegates will determine the 80-member Party Council and the 15-member High Disciplinary Board, in addition to the general chair. Thus, the party’s management cadre for the new period will take shape.
