The German Bundesliga team Werder Bremen has decided not to invite Mesut Özil to the farewell match of their former player Diego Ribas. Bremen stated that this decision was made because Özil has "taken a path that is not in line with the club's values." After retiring from football, Mesut entered politics and recently became a member of the AK Party's Central Decision and Executive Board.
Diego Ribas, one of the legendary players of Werder Bremen, a Bundesliga team, who also played for Fenerbahçe for a period, will play his farewell match at Weser Stadium on March 22. The German team made a surprising decision regarding another former player who once carried the team along with Diego, Mesut Özil.
THEY DID NOT INVITE TO THE MATCH Werder Bremen did not invite Mesut Özil and Tim Wiese, former teammates of Diego, to this special match. According to the German newspaper BILD; club officials made this striking decision jointly with the Brazilian footballer.

HE BECAME A MEMBER OF AK PARTY'S MKYK On the other hand, Mesut Özil, who has played for giant clubs like Real Madrid and Arsenal, and also played for Fenerbahçe and Başakşehir in the Süper Lig, announced that he retired from football in 2023. After ending his football career, Özil entered politics with the AK Party and became a member of the MKYK. Regarding his entry into politics, Mesut Özil stated, "I have actually always been involved in politics. When we took a photo with our President while playing football, a campaign was launched against me. I enjoy politics," he said.
DIEGO RIBAS' CAREER Diego Ribas started his football career at Santos and stepped onto the European stage by transferring to Porto in 2004. The Brazilian footballer, who then played for important clubs like Werder Bremen, Juventus, and Wolfsburg, played in the Champions League final with Atletico Madrid. Transferring to Fenerbahçe in 2014, Diego played here for two seasons. The star player, who won the Super Cup championship with the yellow-navy team, had a performance of 8 goals and 13 assists in 75 matches. Returning to the Brazilian team Flamengo in 2016, Diego Ribas retired from football in 2023.
