Ryan Briggs, a 27-year-old living in England, had a terrifying experience after a simple hair dyeing process. Ryan used the black hair dye his mother bought without conducting a skin test, and the next day he became unrecognizable. Ryan explained, "My head swelled so much that I looked like the cartoon character Megamind. I looked horrifying,". The young man noticed that his face was swelling more and more at work and realized the seriousness of the situation. Doctors diagnosed Ryan with an allergic reaction to paraphenylenediamine (PPD), a substance commonly found in hair dyes. Due to the risk of swelling spreading to his neck and windpipe, Ryan stayed in the hospital for 13 hours and had to take 25 tablets a day for five days. This incident once again demonstrated the importance of conducting a skin test when using hair dye. Ryan warned everyone, saying, "Please always conduct a skin test. What happened to me could have had much worse consequences. The swelling was moving towards my neck and could have hindered my breathing." Fortunately, Ryan's condition improved over time. He said, "I currently have yellow and green scabs on my scalp, but my face has returned to normal." This incident highlighted the importance of being careful and following instructions when using beauty products. Experts emphasize the necessity of conducting a skin test before using chemical-containing products, especially hair dye.
