Turkey has been shaken by a new scandal. In Istanbul, it has been revealed that 47 people, including doctors and nurses, acted in concert with individuals working at the 112 Emergency Call Center, transferring emergency infant patients to pre-agreed private hospitals' neonatal units, leading to their deaths and obtaining unjust profits. It has also come to light that Istanbul Şafak and Avrupa Şafak Hospitals were among the hospitals pre-agreed by these individuals. A statement has been released by the hospital involved in the 'Neonatal Gang' scandal.

The statement included the following:

"In response to the unfounded news regarding Istanbul Şafak and Avrupa Şafak Hospitals related to the 'Neonatal Events' that have recently appeared in the media and deeply affected the public, it has become necessary to make a statement.

Istanbul Şafak and Avrupa Şafak Hospitals have been providing reliable and respected services in the healthcare sector for many years, always prioritizing patient safety and health. Our hospitals have no connection to this case file, either as witnesses or defendants, regarding the so-called 'neonatal events.'

The allegations associating our hospitals' names with such speculative news are damaging our corporate reputation and causing unnecessary panic among the public. Legal proceedings have been initiated regarding this matter, and our legal rights are reserved. We respectfully announce this to the public."

THE MOST HEARTLESS GANG TURKEY HAS SEEN

In Istanbul, it has been revealed that 22 of the 47 suspects, who were acting in concert with the 112 Emergency Service, sent infant patients to the neonatal units of private hospitals they had agreements with, obtaining unjust profits and causing the deaths of some infants. The indictment prepared by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was completed on Thursday. In a statement from the Ministry of Health, it was noted that legal proceedings have been initiated against the hospitals cooperating with the gang.

STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH

The statement from the Ministry included the following: The individuals identified as part of the 'neonatal gang,' who transferred emergency infant patients to pre-agreed private hospitals' neonatal units, causing their deaths and obtaining unjust profits, were detected in an operation conducted in May 2023 in cooperation with the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate and the Police Department, resulting in legal actions and the matter being referred to judicial authorities. As a result of the investigation initiated by our Ministry regarding the activities of the mentioned hospitals, legal sanction processes have been activated. As the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey, we will not allow our healthcare workers, who selflessly fulfill their duties, save lives, and provide healing, to be tarnished by the actions of inhumane individuals. We will follow the process that has been referred to the judiciary until the end."
