The detail that surfaced after the death of Yakup Özcan Bayraktar, who lost his life in the landslide that occurred at 6:30 AM on Tuesday in the Eskipazar neighborhood of Çayeli district in Rize, saddened everyone. It was learned that after the family of Bayraktar, who was buried on Wednesday, could no longer live in their house in Güzeltepe Village due to the risk of landslides, they moved to their current home.

THEIR 35-YEAR-OLD SON PASSED AWAY

According to the information obtained, a landslide occurred in 2018 in the area where the Bayraktar family's house is located, as no precautions were taken on the newly constructed road in their neighborhood in 2015. The family, who escaped from the landslide, moved to a house in the district center that they received from the cooperative they joined in 2013, with the retirement bonus that father Kasım Bayraktar earned from ÇAYKUR and a little credit in 2016. Although they occasionally stayed in the village, the family fled to the house in the district center due to the fear of landslides every time it rained. The fear of landslides did not come from their village, but from the house in Eskipazar neighborhood where they sought refuge after leaving their village due to the fear of landslides. Their 35-year-old son, Yakup Özcan Bayraktar, lost his life under the rubble that entered their home after the retaining wall at the back of their building collapsed. This detail that emerged broke everyone's heart.

The family, who could not stay in their house in the village due to the fear of landslides, and could not stay in their house in the district center due to the landslide, has now taken refuge in the house rented by their other son. The grieving mother Nurcan Bayraktar stated that the house they took refuge in due to the landslide danger has become a grave for their son due to the landslide that occurred, saying, "We also ran away from the landslide in our house in the village. My husband retired, we bought a house from here. We ran away from the landslide, we bought a house from above, and this has also become a grave for my son. We ran from the rain and were caught in hail. Now, if it rains in the village, we run to this house. Now this has collapsed too. My son is a tenant, we are staying in his house."
