The words of the imam from Adana, who reacted in his Friday sermon to the fund scam that shook Turkey by saying, "Even if they made those funds into dürüm, they couldn't finish them in a lifetime," targeting swindlers under the guise of piety, caused a great resonance. A striking assessment of that video, which quickly received millions of views, also came from AK Party member Şamil Tayyar.
Regarding the fund scam that shook Turkey's agenda, the statements a mosque imam expressed in his Friday sermon caused a great repercussion on social media and in public opinion. Drawing attention to greed and the wheel of the scam, the imam emphasized the contradiction between the economic difficulties experienced by low-income citizens and the ostentation of the profiteers.
“IF THEY TURNED THAT MONEY INTO DÜRÜM...”
During the sermon, the imam, who harshly criticized the mechanisms of theft and fraud, used the following statements: “Through stock markets, funds, this and that, thieves have spawned, my dear brothers... They take and carry away billions of money. If they turned that money into dürüm and just ate money, by God, they could not finish it in a lifetime. They are that greedy. They are such bandits that they are no longer in the mountains; they are in the streets, on the avenues, in the bazaars.”
“UNDER MUSLIM ATTIRE...”
Stating that those who commit fraud use religious symbols and places of worship as a shield, the imam continued his reaction as follows: “By God, they are in Mecca; by God, they are in Medina; by God, they are in mosques; by God, they are in the rows. They are prostrating shoulder to shoulder with you. These are modern thefts. And those thieves, without any shame or embarrassment... While a retiree is trying to get by on 20 thousand liras, we see people waiting for hours for a case or 2 liters of oil. How will you bear their sin? We see that these are bearded men, well-dressed people, women in headscarves... My heart burns! When faith does not reach the heart, faith does not show in appearance, my dear brothers. It does not work with the headscarves they wear or the beards they grow.”
ŞAMİL TAYYAR COULD NOT REMAIN SILENT
An assessment also came from the AK Party side regarding the imam's sermon that became a trending topic. Şamil Tayyar, who posted on his social media account about the issue, drew attention to the fact that the process should not harm religious people and wrote the following statements: “An imam in Adana devoting his sermon to the fund scam shows the rapidly increasing spread effect of the social trauma. We know the weight of the phrase ‘If they made that money into dürüm and ate it, they could not finish it in a lifetime.’ Compensation for individual and social damage is possible by some means. However. The fact that the process has reached a dimension that will harm ‘religion’ or ‘religious’ people is the dimension that should be emphasized most. Look, the imam says that some profiteers, by appearing ‘pious,’ mix among devout people in Mecca, in Medina, in the mosque. What a pity. No one has the right to do this.”
