In Istanbul, a lawsuit has been filed against 47 suspects, 22 of whom are detained, for allegedly causing the deaths of emergency infant patients by transferring them to neonatal units of private hospitals they had previously agreed upon, in collaboration with personnel working at the 112 Emergency Call Center, and for obtaining unjust profits. The indictment prepared by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office also included an inspector's report prepared by the Ministry of Health. NO DOCTOR IN THE HOSPITALThe report stated that a baby named Ayaz K. was born in a state hospital on November 26, 2023, and was transferred to a private hospital due to developing heart failure, despite initially being healthy. It was noted that the intensive care unit of the private hospital to which the baby was transferred was also inadequate, stating, "Due to the lack of a circuit in their hands, intubation is being performed with a delay on the baby, whose general condition and respiratory distress continue to worsen." The report mentioned that only a suspicious nurse named Çağla Durmuş intervened with the baby, and it was stated, "Dr. Dursun Eryılmaz, who should have been in the hospital at that time, is not present. The patient dies in the 24th hour." THEY DID NOT FEED THE BABYIt was pointed out in the report that the early-born baby named Kaya had no neonatal nurse in the hospital on the night he died, only a nurse assistant was present. It was also determined that the death report of baby Havvanur, who passed away four days after her birth, was deliberately written incorrectly. The report stated that Dr. İlker Gönen, who is alleged to be the leader of the organization, changed the time of death to cover up the incident and wrote the cause of death incorrectly, stating, "It has been determined that the baby, who weighed 200 grams at the time of death, entered malnutrition not because of having short intestines, but because she did not receive sufficient energy, protein, and phosphorus support in her feeding." PASSIVE EUTHANASIA WAS APPLIEDIt was reported that baby Kerem's heart stopped while he was in intensive care, and that resuscitation was not performed in an appropriate manner and time. The report included the following: "The nurse spoke on the phone with Dr. İlker (outside the hospital), who stated that there was no need to resuscitate the patient, and that it would be sufficient to show in the patient file that resuscitation was performed for 20 minutes. He requested the preparation of a fake file. Passive euthanasia was applied to the patient." PHONE CALLS WERE HAUNTINGThe phone conversations between gang leader Fırat Sarı and nurse Bahar Kanık from Çorlu Reyap Hospital were chilling:- DOCTOR: Don't let him die before I arrive!
- NURSE: I will pull the plug on Sarıkaya (the baby's name) if you don't come.
- DOCTOR: Haha, I'm talking about my grandfather's plug (referring to a local comedy film).
"THEY SAID LET HIM DIE"A phone tape regarding the intervention of a nurse assistant due to the absence of a doctor, which led to the baby's death, was also included in the indictment. A chilling phone conversation between two different nurses was recorded. - Hakan Doğukan Taşçı: Dude, a baby was dying. I was going to say to sneak in and do 'CPR' for the child for two minutes...
- Hüseyin Günerhan: Where?
- Hakan Doğukan Taşçı: In the south.
- Hüseyin Günerhan: Let the baby die so we can complain easily.
- Hakan Doğukan Taşçı: Dude, it's sad, the child died in front of my eyes.
- Hüseyin Günerhan: What happened, what was wrong with him?
- Hakan Doğukan Taşçı: 28 weeks old. The doctor said if he loses, pull the tube, he won't survive...
- Hüseyin Günerhan: Are you kidding? They did nothing, they said let him die.
THEIR RIGHT TO LIFE WAS TAKEN AWAYThe inspector's report included in the indictment stated, "In theory, the rights to life of 90% of newborn babies, which are left to the monitoring of nurses in practice, have been taken away. We believe that these incidents will continue to occur repeatedly without any changes being made." HOSPITALS INVOLVED IN COLLABORATION- Akabe Health Facilities
