NOT THE FIRST VIOLATION BY GREECEA similar incident occurred on September 20 in Bodrum, Muğla. A Greek boat chased a smuggler's boat by violating Turkish territorial waters. The Coast Guard Command also confirmed the incident. The command stated, "Some news and video recordings have been shared regarding the violation of our territorial waters by the Greek Coast Guard boat." The command's statement was as follows: "On September 20, 2024, some media outlets and social media accounts shared news and video recordings stating that a chase occurred between a Greek Coast Guard boat and a fast boat with one person on board, and during this chase, the Greek Coast Guard boat violated our territorial waters." Information regarding the matter is as follows: On September 20, 2024, upon receiving a report from the 112 Emergency Call Center stating that "a rubber boat has landed at Meteor Bay in Bodrum Akyarlar and one person has fled into the forested area," two Coast Guard boats (KB-35, KB-114) were immediately dispatched to the scene, and the report was forwarded to the Bodrum District Gendarmerie Command. Our assigned Coast Guard units promptly arrived at the scene, and it was determined that the Greek Coast Guard unit quickly returned to its own territorial waters. Search efforts are ongoing to find the person who fled into the forested area and is believed to be a migrant smuggler. We respectfully announce this to the public.
