Following claims that Israel is preparing a large-scale ground operation in southern Syria, the Damascus administration is preparing to make radical changes in its military and political structure. In response to possible attacks, it is planned to move at least three ministries to Aleppo, the Ministry of Defense to Hama, and the Central Bank and strategic institutions in the fields of oil, agriculture, water, and economy to the Idlib, Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor, and Hasakah regions.
After the revolution that took place in Syria on December 8, 2024, Israel increased its military activities in the south of the country. It was stated that Israel crossed the buffer line in the Golan Heights and advanced along the Quneitra-Damascus-Daraa line, and that it carried out 1,232 attacks on Syrian territory. It was also claimed that Israel effectively occupied about one-third of the country.
Syrian security sources speaking in Damascus stated that Israel carried out ground and air attacks along the Damascus, Homs, Quneitra and Daraa line, and claimed that it was preparing for a large-scale ground operation backed by air support.
MINISTRIES AND STRATEGIC INSTITUTIONS TO BE RELOCATED
According to a report by Türkiye newspaper, a Syrian government official said that a new plan was being worked on to protect state institutions against possible Israeli attacks. In this context, it was stated that preparations were under way to move at least three ministries to Aleppo and the Ministry of Defense to Hama.
It was noted that the Central Bank and strategic institutions operating in the fields of oil, agriculture, water and economy were also being considered for transfer to the Idlib, Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor and Hasakah regions.
MOVEMENT ON THE JORDANIAN BORDER DRAWS ATTENTION
Syrian sources stated that the recent military movement based in Jordan should be evaluated together with Israel's activities in the region. It was stated that the Damascus administration interpreted these developments as an early warning.
According to the sources, the main purpose of the Jordanian army's attacks on Syria and its military fortifications along the border line is to take precautions against at least 1 million people who, it is claimed, may be forced to migrate from the Quneitra-Daraa line due to possible Israeli operations.
CLAIM OF THE SOFA 53 CORRIDOR
It was claimed that the Sofa 53 corridor would play an important role in the ground operation that Israel is alleged to be planning. It was stated that this corridor, extending to the Jordanian border, is a route that could enable Israel to establish a land connection with the Druze communities in the Sweida region.
It was claimed that Israel's medium- and long-term plan is to place Druze and Jewish settlers in areas to be evacuated between the Golan and Sweida. The sources argued that the plan in question could lead to forced migration and ethnic cleansing.
DAMASCUS AVOIDS DIRECT CONFLICT
It was stated that the Syrian administration has information about Israel's possible operation plans, but that it has stayed away from direct military conflict because it lacks sufficient air defense systems.
It was stated that the administration of Ahmed al-Sharaa, which is trying to restructure its political institutions and army, has militarily withdrawn from the Daraa and Quneitra line.
While it was claimed that Israeli forces had approached to within 25 kilometers of Damascus, it was noted that the Syrian administration aims to protect its political, military and economic institutions during a possible military struggle. For this reason, it was stated that it is planned to disperse state institutions to the country's interior and take measures against possible attacks.
CLAIM THAT NETANYAHU IS MAKING POWER CALCULATIONS THROUGH IRAN AND SYRIA
It was claimed that developments in southern Syria also closely concern the election process and government formation efforts in Israel.
According to the claims, although the Yashar Party led by Gadi Eisenkot and the political bloc it acts with have obtained a majority, their failure to form a government offers Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu an opportunity to make political calculations through Iran and Syria.
It was claimed that Netanyahu aims to include Israel Our Home Party leader Avigdor Lieberman in the coalition through a possible occupation operation in southern Syria. It was stated that Lieberman is also among those who advocate the occupation of southern Syria.
TURKEY FACTOR STANDS OUT IN STRATEGY CHANGE
It was stated that the Turkey factor also plays an important role in the Syrian administration's plan to move state institutions to the country's interior.
While it was planned to shift critical institutions to the Hama, Aleppo, Hasakah, Deir ez-Zor, Idlib and Raqqa line, it was reported that areas close to the Turkish border are expected to be preferred.
It was stated that by dispersing political, military and economic management centers to different regions, the aim is to create a wider area of movement against possible air and ground attacks. In addition, within the scope of this strategy, it was claimed that the aim is also to benefit from Turkey's intelligence capacity and ground and air power.
TRAFFIC OF TALKS BETWEEN ANKARA AND DAMASCUS INCREASED
It was claimed that another step being considered against Israel's possible operations is Syria's joining the Mecca Alliance.
It was stated that the talks conducted between Ankara and Damascus on this issue have increased extraordinarily in the recent period. It was stated that the Syrian administration aims to strengthen regional cooperation against military threats originating from Israel.
