A father and daughter in Ankara claimed they were brutally assaulted because their landlords did not accept a rent increase that was five times the legal limit. The victimized woman, who alleged that the landlord did not comply with the court ruling and constantly threatened her through her disabled son, demanded that the assailant who hospitalized her and her disabled father be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The incident occurred on the evening of November 18 in the Baraj neighborhood of Altındağ, Ankara. According to allegations, A.T. (38), who lives in Istanbul, found the rent of 4,200 lira paid by their tenants Himmet Kaysal (58) and his daughter Seçil Kaysal (33) to be insufficient. Opposing the legal increase applied by the father and daughter, A.T. demanded that 20,000 lira be paid monthly for the house. A dispute broke out between the Kaysal family and the landlord, who claimed that the requested amount was illegal. Following this, A.T. came to Ankara and rented an empty shop on the street where the tenants lived to attack the family. After starting to live in the rented shop, A.T. encountered Seçil Kaysal, who was passing by with her child. Kaysal, who was attacked with an iron rod by A.T., called her father for help. Himmet Kaysal, who is 70% physically disabled and wanted to save his daughter, was also attacked by the landlord A.T. Police teams dispatched to the area intervened in the incident, and the injured father and daughter were taken to the hospital. The assailant landlord was detained. RIB FRACTURES AND LEFT ARM INJURIESAs a result of the attack, Seçil Kaysal suffered fractures in her ribs and left arm. Kaysal, who received three stitches on her head, reported that her father's nose was broken. The father and daughter, who had bruises and swellings on different parts of their bodies, demanded that the attacking landlords receive the punishment they deserved. The family, who stated that they had been subjected to threats, insults, harassment, and similar attacks for nearly two years, expressed that they felt fear and anxiety due to their experiences. Mother Kaysal, who said that the threats made through her disabled son hurt her the most, requested help from the authorities. "THE STICK IN HIS HAND BROKE ON ME"Victim Seçil Kaysal, speaking about the incident, said: "I have been living here with my family for nearly four years. For the last one and a half years, I have been having constant problems with my landlord due to rent increases. Every time we went to court, a decision was made for an increase based on the legal limit, but the landlord did not accept it. He was threatening me through my disabled child. Yesterday, I was taking my son to the barber. He had rented a shop nearby. He suddenly came out from there. He started an argument. Targeting my disabled son, he said, 'I will make you live with the pain of this son.' He came up to me, punched me, and attacked me with a stick. I was dragged on the ground. The stick in his hand broke on me, and then he continued to hit me with an iron rod. I was beaten for 25 minutes. I have three stitches on my head. My left arm is completely broken. I have fractures in my ribs as well. If I do not heal, I may need surgery," she said. "HE ASKED US FOR 20,000 LIRA RENT"Kaysal expressed that the landlords constantly tried to intimidate them, saying, "The landlord told us, 'I am the landlord. You will pay the rent I set. I do not recognize justice or law; complain wherever you want.' He also managed to cancel the restraining orders we obtained against him. He asked us for 20,000 lira rent. We applied the legal increase and started paying 4,200 lira. The landlord had previously cut off our electricity and water subscriptions four times. I am very scared. I have two children. One of them is already disabled. I cannot send him to school out of fear. I was beaten in front of my child. My child said, 'Don't hit my mom, hit me instead.' Due to the threats, I had to send my child to another school. At this rate, I will take him out of this school as well," she said. "MY FATHER HAS FRACTURES IN HIS NOSE"Kaysal, who demanded a solution to the situation, stated, "I filed a complaint; he is currently at the police station. He will be referred to the prosecutor's office today. He will then appear before a judge. I want him to be arrested, and I expect the state to find a solution to this problem. My father was also assaulted. He has fractures in his nose. He is already 70% disabled due to a work accident. He also attacked my father with the stick in his hand," she said. Father Himmet Kaysal stated that they had committed no crime, saying, "I am a disabled person. I have a total of 24 plates in my right leg and left arm. My daughter called me yesterday. 'Dad, hurry, my landlord is beating me,' she said. I don't know how I got there in my disabled state. When I arrived, he started hitting me with a stick. Then he dragged me down the stairs. I sustained damage to my nose and eye. I have been threatened for three years. I applied the legal increase as it is. The landlord comes right up to my door and says, 'You will either pay 20,000 lira, or I will know how to evict you from this house.' He sends my daughter threatening messages and threatens me and my family. Although the court sees us as right, he does not comply with the decisions. He says, 'I do not recognize the government or the court.'
