The world-renowned gastronomic guide MICHELIN has expanded its coverage in Turkey by including Cappadocia in its 2026 selection. Following Istanbul, Izmir, and Muğla, Cappadocia is the fourth destination highlighted for its unique cuisine based on local products. The region's first restaurant selection will be announced at a ceremony in Istanbul on December 4, 2025.
The gastronomic map of Turkey continues to shine on the international stage. The MICHELIN guide, considered the most prestigious gastronomic guide in the world, began its journey in Turkey in 2022 with Istanbul and added Izmir and Muğla in 2023. The guide has now announced that it has included Cappadocia, the heart of Central Anatolia, as the fourth Turkish destination in its 2026 selection.
The unique culinary heritage of Cappadocia has been highlighted
In a statement regarding the inclusion of Cappadocia, the MICHELIN Guide drew attention to the region's strong gastronomic identity. It was noted that, in addition to the natural and cultural heritage such as the fairy chimneys, rock-carved houses, and hot air balloons listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the region's culinary scene also offers a rich diversity.
The foundation of the regional cuisine is built on thousands of years of cooking traditions and fresh local products. Slow-cooked meats in a tandoor, famous earthenware casseroles, various mezes, and flavors prepared using traditional fermentation methods define Cappadocia's unique gastronomic character.
The first selection will be announced in December 2025
The results of the evaluations that the MICHELIN Guide will conduct, ranging from luxury restaurants to local eateries in Cappadocia, are eagerly awaited.
The region's first starred or recommended restaurants will be announced at a special ceremony to be held on December 4, 2025, at the Four Seasons Hotel Bosphorus in Istanbul, alongside the other three cities. It is stated that this development shows that Turkey has established a strong presence in the international gastronomic scene not only with its coastal regions but also with the deep culinary culture of its inland areas.
