While millions of employees are focused on the expected increase in the minimum wage, the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, consisting of representatives from workers, employers, and the government, will come together in the first week of December to start negotiations for the raise.
STATEMENTS KEEP COMING
As the increase rate for the minimum wage is eagerly awaited, statements regarding the issue continue to come in succession from both the opposition and the government side.
MINISTER IŞIKHAN: WE WILL NOT LET OUR EMPLOYEES BE BURDENED BY INFLATION
In his latest statement, Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan said, "We hope that an agreement will be reached on a figure that everyone agrees on for the minimum wage to be determined in 2025. We will continue to steadfastly uphold our principle of protecting our employees against inflation and providing them with lasting prosperity," while the opposition continues to announce figures related to minimum wage expectations.
The proposals of the political parties in the Parliament for the minimum wage increase are as follows:
- CHP: 30 thousand lira
- İYİ Party: 28 thousand lira
- Yeniden Refah: 35 thousand lira
- Gelecek Partisi: 33 thousand 337 lira
- DEM Party: 35 thousand lira
4 DIFFERENT FIGURES WILL BE ON THE TABLE
It is expected that 4 different figures will be presented for the determination of the minimum wage. If the recently mentioned 25% increase occurs, the minimum wage will be 21 thousand 250 lira. If the 41.5% increase specified in the Medium Term Program is implemented, the minimum wage will rise to 24 thousand 57 lira. If we take the 17.5% inflation target for 2025 in the OVP as a basis, the figure will be 19 thousand 975 lira. In this case, the minimum wage will still remain below the poverty line. If the Central Bank's year-end inflation expectation of 44% is taken into account, the minimum wage will rise to 24 thousand 483 lira.
