The minimum wage increase has not yet been made, but opportunists have already begun to show themselves. Rumors about the increase to be made in January have started to raise prices.
PRICE INCREASES BEFORE MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE
Producers who see the increase in the minimum wage as an opportunity have slightly raised prices before the increase. Businesspeople speaking to Sözcü said, "An increase of around 25-30% in the minimum wage is expected. Some producers have started to make installment increases today instead of fully reflecting the increase in labor costs in their products in the new year."
4 INCREASES
Businesspeople stated that a 10% increase was made in the first stage as of November, and another 10% increase is expected in December when the increase negotiations will begin. In other words, it has been learned that two increases will be made before the minimum wage is even increased. Moreover, it has been indicated that two more increases could be made in January and February.
BUSINESSPEOPLE'S EXPECTATIONS FOR THE MINIMUM WAGE
Regarding the issue, businesspeople said, "We cannot say that all companies have started to increase prices. However, there are many companies that we know have already started to raise prices. The announced increase rates are particularly frightening for small businesses. Figures of 30,000 to 35,000 lira for the minimum wage are being mentioned. We do not think these figures will materialize. However, we believe it will influence decision-makers in determining a higher minimum wage. The fact that there will be no elections next year is our biggest chance." Businesspeople expressed that they want the new minimum wage to be 21,000 lira and not exceed 22,000 lira.
