The Ministry of Trade has determined that shipments arriving in our country from abroad via express cargo or postal services have recently been the subject of fraudulent activities. The Ministry warned that in postal and express cargo transactions, the units of the Ministry of Trade and the customs administrations of the Ministry of Trade do not notify citizens via email, phone calls, or messages, and do not request payment through any account number or website link. FRAUD UNDER THE NAME OF EXPRESS CARGOIn a statement from the Ministry, it was noted that shipments arriving in our country from abroad via express cargo or postal services have recently been the subject of fraudulent activities, stating, "Fraudsters use expressions such as 'You have a shipment at customs', 'Your shipment is stuck at customs', 'Legal action will be taken against you as an illegal substance has been detected in your shipment', 'An additional fee must be paid for delivery as your cargo could not be delivered' through fake and deceptive notifications sent via email, phone calls, messages, and other communication tools, and citizens are sent account numbers or website links and asked to deposit money. Therefore, it is vital for citizens to verify the information regarding such notifications they receive." THE MINISTRY DOES NOT REQUEST MONEYIt was emphasized that in postal and express cargo transactions, the units of the Ministry of Trade and the customs administrations of the Ministry of Trade do not notify citizens via email, phone calls, or messages, and do not request payment through any account number or website link. "On the other hand, it is of great importance to verify the accuracy of notifications received from the express cargo company or postal administration authorized by our Ministry of Trade regarding your e-commerce purchases that may be subject to postal and express cargo transactions. With the new regulation made by our Ministry of Trade, uniformity is ensured in the notifications to be sent by postal enterprises and express cargo companies regarding e-commerce purchases that may be subject to postal and express cargo transactions, and a notification format has been created for each transaction to be made to citizens." RELY ON THE OFFICIAL WEBSITEIn the same regulation, it has been announced to the public that the contact information of the postal enterprises and express cargo companies authorized by our Ministry of Trade, which are responsible for making these notifications, will be published on the official website of our Ministry of Trade. For this purpose, from the list available at the link 'https://ggm.ticaret.gov.tr/istatistikler/istatistikler', it can be checked whether the notifications made to citizens are sent from the corporate email address or phone number of the relevant express cargo company or postal administration, along with the notification contents. Information was provided that the Ministry of Trade is continuing its efforts to combat fake and deceptive notifications at full speed, and all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of our citizens and enable them to shop securely.
