According to the data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), a 5 magnitude earthquake occurred in Elazığ at 17:04. The tremor occurred at a depth of approximately 16.22 kilometers.

The Kandilli Observatory reported the earthquake's magnitude as 5.1 and its depth as 5.0 kilometers.

The earthquake was also felt in surrounding provinces.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya and Elazığ Governor Numan Hatipoğlu announced that there is no negative situation due to the earthquake.

Speaking to A Haber, Earthquake Expert Prof. Dr. Şükrü Ersoy warned citizens, saying, "I want to make a warning here. While citizens have gone outside after the earthquake, they are waiting right in front of the buildings. This is not very correct. In the event of an aftershock, something could fall from high-rise buildings. This is not a very correct approach. Generally, it is healthier to wait in open areas in squares. The front of every house is not very safe."

Noting that the experienced earthquake is not an aftershock, Ersoy stated, "Until now, we have always talked about these aftershocks occurring under the Caspian Sea on the East Anatolian Fault. This is not such an earthquake. It is located east of Lake Caspian. This is a new area. This earthquake is on the East Anatolian Fault Line, but I do not consider it an aftershock. Therefore, this earthquake is not an aftershock of 2023 or 2020."
