Drivers on a highway in Israel panicked to protect themselves from a Hezbollah missile that fell onto the road. This incident occurred during a time when Hezbollah was launching rocket attacks from Lebanon into Israel, and Israel's Iron Dome defense system was unable to intercept all the rockets. A video taken on the highway near the town of Tamra shows vehicles pulling over to the side of the road as the sirens blare. A large cloud of smoke rises from the explosion of a rocket that suddenly fell in the middle of the road. A frightened man getting out of the vehicle in front quickly lies down on the ground to seek cover. This incident took place the day after intense bombardments carried out by Israel in southern Lebanon, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 500 people, more than 90 of whom were women and children. The Israel Defense Forces announced that they targeted command-control centers and ammunition depots that they claimed belonged to Hezbollah. The Israeli army reported that 55 rockets fired from Lebanon fell in northern Israel on Tuesday morning, causing fires and damage to buildings. Military officials stated that they conducted dozens of airstrikes on Hezbollah targets and struck targets near the border with tank and artillery fire. These clashes resulted in the highest number of casualties in a single day in Lebanon since the month-long war in 2006. The Israeli army stated that there was no urgent plan for a ground operation but that they were prepared. As world leaders gather in New York for the UN General Assembly, there is hope for increased diplomatic efforts to end this violent conflict in the Middle East.
