Scientists have announced that the "tar balls" appearing on beaches in Sydney, which led to their closure, are a mixture of oil, human waste, and other substances.
The municipality of Randwick, located in the suburb of Sydney, Australia, closed the local Coogee beach in October due to mysterious tar balls of unknown origin.
In a statement from the municipality, it was said, "Coogee Beach in Sydney has been closed until further notice after Randwick City Council lifeguards discovered spherical substances of unknown origin this afternoon, October 15."
MYSTERY SOLVED
Municipal environmental officers collected samples from the beach and sent them for testing. Scientists determined that the tar balls were a mixture of oil, human waste, chemical residues, and other harmful substances after their examinations.
