The president of the Turkish Wrestling Federation, Taha Akgül, was elected at the ordinary general assembly. The 6th ordinary and financial general assembly meeting of the federation was held at Anadolu Hotels Esenboğa Thermal. HE OUTPERFORMED HIS RIVALIn the general assembly where the current president Şeref Eroğlu did not run, Taha Akgül and Selçuk Çebi competed for the presidency. Taha Akgül became the new president of the federation by receiving 189 of the 288 votes cast. Çebi remained with 92 votes, while 7 votes were deemed invalid. While the counting was ongoing, Çebi congratulated Akgül. In the general assembly chaired by Abdullah Albunar, the activity and audit reports were also approved. The new board of directors under the presidency of Taha Akgül includes Mesut Özarslan, Abdullah Şanlı, Arslan Narin, Murat Şahin, Hüseyin Kaya, Şems Sezal, İsmail Yağbat, İhsan Gürol Güzey, İbrahim Demirtürkoğlu, and Ahmet Yıldırım. Akgül, who ended his athletic career after winning a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, achieved 1 Olympic, 3 World, and 11 European championships in his career. Akgül won a total of 22 medals, including 15 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze in these three categories. The general assembly was also attended by Hamza Yerlikaya, the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports and a former national wrestler who is an Olympic champion. The new president of the Turkish Wrestling Federation, Taha Akgül, stated, "We will do everything we can to save the future of Turkish wrestling and our lost infrastructure."
