The 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to South Korean novelist Han Kang "for her poetic prose." The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences selected South Korean author Han Kang as the recipient of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature. The Academy announced on Thursday that Han Kang was awarded this prestigious prize "for her poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and powerfully reflects the fragility of human life." Han Kang will receive the Nobel Prize at a ceremony on December 10, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death. Along with the award, the winner will receive a cash prize of 11 million Swedish Krona (approximately 950,000 euros). After growing up in Suyuri, she graduated from Yonsei University, known as one of Korea's best universities, with a degree in Korean language and literature. She made her literary debut as a poet in 1993 with five poems published in the magazine Literature and Society (mungakgwa sahoe). The following year, she began her career as a novelist by winning the Shinmun Literary Competition with her book Red Anchor.
