The investigation into the incident where three gendarmerie officers in Van assaulted and then robbed an imam has been completed. In the indictment prepared by the Van Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it is claimed that there was an "emotional relationship" between Imam I.S. and Gendarmerie Sergeant Gül Kılıç, while it was stated that Kılıç and the gendarmes under his command committed the crime of "Robbery with a firearm" against the imam, with a request for imprisonment of 10 to 15 years. THEY MET AT NIGHTAccording to the claim reported by Seyhan Avşar from Gerçek Gündem; Gendarmerie Sergeant Gül Kılıç, who served in the Van-Gevaş District Gendarmerie Command, started talking on social media with Imam I.S., who lives in the central district of Bitlis after getting divorced from his wife. On the night of August 28, the imam and Sergeant Gül Kılıç met. FIRST THREAT, THEN ASSAULTWhile they were in a car on the Van-Erciş highway, Gendarmerie Specialist Corporal Orhan Ersoy and Gendarmerie Specialist Private Ömer Keleşoğlu came to them. They first recorded the imam on camera. They said, "If you tell someone something, the video will be released." Then they brutally assaulted him and transferred the money from his account to their own accounts. Sergeant Kılıç left the scene by getting into the vehicle of a civilian named Taner Şirp. INDICTMENT PREPAREDThe investigation, which started with the complaint of Imam I.S. and continued with the arrest of the gendarmerie officers, included the allegation of the relationship in the indictment prepared by the Van Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The Van Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated in the indictment that there was a romantic relationship between the suspect Gül Kılıç and the complainant Imam I.S., and included the following statements: "On the date of the incident, it was determined that Sergeant Gül met with the imam in the province of Van, while the complainant was driving the vehicle towards Erciş, the suspect Gül shared his location with the other suspects Ömer, Orhan, and Taner, and the suspects went to the vehicle that was stopped by the roadside, and suspects Ömer and Orhan assaulted the complainant and threatened him with a firearm, transferring 16,800 and 38,730 TL from the complainant's account in two parts to the account used by suspect Taner, and also took the complainant's glasses, leader brand thermoses, and charger, during which suspect Gül Kılıç attempted to clean the vehicle to erase evidence, and suspect Taner was waiting to help suspect Gül escape from the scene, and later it was determined that suspect Gül left the scene with suspect Taner's vehicle." UP TO 15 YEARS OF IMPRISONMENT REQUESTEDThe prosecutor's office requested that the four individuals, three of whom are gendarmerie officers and one civilian, who assaulted and robbed the imam, be punished with imprisonment of up to 15 years for the crime of "Robbery with a firearm at night." WHAT HAPPENED?According to the allegation; Gendarmerie Sergeant Gül K., who served in the Van-Gevaş District Gendarmerie Command, became romantically involved with Imam İkram S. after getting divorced from his wife. During the course of their relationship, Imam S. wanted to have sexual relations with Sergeant K. It was claimed that the female sergeant asked the imam for money in exchange for engaging in a relationship, and it was alleged that Imam S. accepted this situation. However, after the sexual relationship, when the imam did not pay the money, the angry woman allegedly planned to have Imam S. robbed and beaten by two gendarmerie specialist corporals under her command and Taner Ş., with whom she had previously had a romantic relationship. Following the imam's complaint, an investigation was initiated, and Gül K. along with two gendarmerie personnel and Taner Ş. were arrested. After the incidents, the money that was robbed from the imam was returned. It was revealed that the 58 thousand lira taken from the imam was sent to the account of the wife of Taner Ş.'s Iranian partner, who was arrested after the incident. The money was then transferred from there to the imam's account. DECISION OF NON-PROSECUTION AGAINST THE IMAMAfter the events, the Van Chief Public Prosecutor's Office made its decision regarding the imam. The prosecutor's office stated, "Although an investigation was initiated against I.S. based on the allegations of the complainant suspect Gül Kılıç, it was determined that there was no coercion against Gül Kılıç in the camera recordings related to the incident, and that Kılıç's failure to apply to the relevant authorities on the same day after the alleged actions was contrary to the ordinary course of life." The prosecutor's office noted that the statements of Gül Kılıç and the other gendarmerie officers were contradictory, while the PTS records and BTK report corroborated the imam's statements, leading to a decision of non-prosecution against the imam.
