A person who caused a forest fire by throwing a cigarette butt in the bush area in the Çeşme district of Izmir has been arrested.

The forest fires that started in the Menderes, Selçuk, and Çeşme districts of the city yesterday had turned dozens of hectares into ashes. The fires were brought under control after hours of intense intervention from the air and ground.

6 PEOPLE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

While the fire in Menderes started from a hobby garden, the fire in Çeşme was caused by a cigarette butt. After the person named O.I., who threw the cigarette butt, was taken into custody in Germiyan Neighborhood of Çeşme district, he was arrested.

1 ARREST DEMAND REGARDING THE FIRE IN MENDERES

Meanwhile, 5 people were taken into custody due to the fire that broke out in the hobby gardens in Menderes. While 4 of the 5 people were released under judicial control, 1 person was sent to court with a request for arrest. Approximately 150 hectares of land were damaged in Menderes and 350 hectares in Selçuk.
