In the district of Torbalı in Izmir, the person who changed the cylinder at the workplace related to the industrial type cylinder explosion, in which 5 people died and 57 people were injured, was taken into custody.

STREET TURNED INTO A BATTLEFIELD

An explosion occurred at a bakery shop on Barış Manço Street around 15:00. The street turned into a battlefield after the explosion. Many buildings in the vicinity were also damaged. Those who heard the loud explosion sound rushed out into the street in fear and panic.

INJURED PEOPLE WAITED FOR HELP ON THE STREET

Upon the citizens' notification, the area was dispatched by the emergency medical services. In the initial images from the scene, it was seen that many people were lying injured on the ground and the people around rushed to help.

5 DEAD, 57 INJURED

As the building turned into rubble, the lifeless bodies of those who died were covered by the police. The teams cut off all the natural gas lines in the area for security purposes. Izmir Governor Süleyman Elban stated that 5 people died and 57 people were injured in the explosion in Ayrancılar Neighborhood of Torbalı district.

CAUSE OF THE EXPLOSION: INDUSTRIAL CYLINDER IN THE RESTAURANT

Izmir Governor Süleyman Elban stated, "We have determined that the explosion occurred due to the industrial cylinder in the restaurant operated as a Şırdancı."

CRISIS DESK ESTABLISHED IN THE AREA

Torbalı Mayor Övünç Demir stated that 10 out of 20 injured people were in critical condition. Demir continued his statement by saying, "Both sides, from top to bottom, were evacuated. The columns may have been damaged. We are all here. We are also providing the support we can to the neighborhood residents. People are lying on the ground. It is a very bad situation, we are establishing a crisis desk."

PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE INITIATED AN INVESTIGATION

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced that an investigation has been launched regarding the explosion. In his statement, Minister Tunç said, "An adli investigation has been initiated by the Torbalı Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the explosion that occurred in a restaurant in Torbalı district of Izmir, and 2 public prosecutors have been assigned under the coordination of the Torbalı Chief Public Prosecutor. The investigation is being carried out meticulously. I extend my condolences to the citizens who lost their lives in the explosion and wish a speedy recovery to the injured citizens."
