Turkey's population increased by 159,910 people in the first six months of this year, reaching 85,824,854 as of July 1st.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced the periodic population statistics produced for the first time for quarterly periods.

INCREASE OF 160 THOUSAND PEOPLE

Accordingly, the country's population, which was 85 million 664 thousand 944 at the end of 2024, increased by 159 thousand 910 people in the first 6 months of this year. Thus, the country's population reached 85 million 824 thousand 854 people as of July 1.

FEMALE POPULATION RATE IS 49.99 PERCENT

The male population rate was recorded as 50.01 percent (42 million 923 thousand 584 people), while the female population rate was recorded as 49.99 percent (42 million 901 thousand 270 people).

IN ADVANCED AGES, THE FEMALE POPULATION DOUBLES THAT OF MALES

Another significant finding highlighted in the projections was the difference in gender distribution in older age groups. While the female and male populations are almost equal across Turkey, as age increases, the proportion of women in the population significantly surpasses that of men.

Especially in the population group aged 90 and over, this difference increases even more. According to the data from July 1, 2025, there are 76 thousand 841 men in this age group, while the female population is seen to be 174 thousand 340. This situation confirms that women's average life expectancy is higher than that of men.
