The poverty line in Istanbul has exceeded 64 thousand lira.

According to the poverty report of the Istanbul Planning Agency, the poverty line in Istanbul has exceeded 64,000 TL, while the poverty rate has risen to 18.3%. In Istanbul, 62.5% of the population stated that they cannot heat their homes as they wish, 61.7% cannot meet their clothing needs, and 34% cannot access fresh vegetables/fruits.

According to the 'Poverty Statistics' report by the Istanbul Planning Agency (IPA), the poverty rate, which was 18.1% in 2022, increased to 18.3% in 2023. The poverty threshold announced for September 2024 has exceeded 64 thousand lira.

ISTANBULITES COULD NOT ACCESS SUFFICIENT FOOD

According to the report, 62.5% of Istanbulites could not heat their homes as they wished, 61.7% could not meet their clothing needs adequately, 34% could not access fresh fruits and vegetables on a daily basis, and 58.1% could not consume the protein group consisting of meat, chicken, or fish every other day.
