The Presidency responds to Özel's claim that 'Germany is sending refugees by plane.'

The President of Communications, Fahrettin Altun, clarified the claims made by the CHP Chairman Özgür Özel that "asylum seekers are being sent from Germany to Turkey by planes." Altun stated that these claims do not reflect the truth and that it is out of the question for Turkish authorities to accept such a practice.

In his speech, CHP Leader Özgür Özel's claim that "refugees are being sent from Germany to Turkey" was responded to by Fahrettin Altun, the President of Communications. In a statement made on his social media account, Altun emphasized that Özel's claims about refugees do not reflect the truth, stating that "we have witnessed that CHP Chairman Özel has reiterated claims that have been denied three times on different dates by the Disinformation Combat Center."

"COMPLETELY FALSE"

In his statement on social media, Altun stressed that there is absolutely no agreement regarding the sending of third-country nationals, such as Syrians and Afghans, who do not have legal residence rights in Germany, to Turkey, and that the claims that Turkey has agreed to accept third-country nationals "in exchange for purchasing Eurofighter aircraft" are completely false.

Altun recalled that the claim suggesting an agreement between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to send 500 Turkish citizens without legal residence rights to Turkey every week was firmly denied by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Disinformation Combat Center on September 27, 2024.

"THEY SERVED IT TO MANIPULATE THE TURKISH PUBLIC"

Altun pointed out that the same claims were re-served as "refugees are being sent to Turkey by plane" to manipulate the Turkish public, noting that a video shared by anti-Turkey social media accounts was used as a basis for the claim, and that the claim was proven to be unfounded, with the videos being fabricated, as detailed by the Center on September 29.

Altun stated that the anti-Turkey propaganda accounts, whose disinformation was exposed, are now trying to spread a different fabricated video with the claim "refugees in Germany are being sent to Turkey by plane," emphasizing that these videos have no relation to the sending of refugees to Turkey, and that it was determined by the Center that the sound was added to the videos afterward, and that the claims were denied with documents on October 15.

Fahrettin Altun, the President of Communications, stated, "We reiterate that Mr. Özel should not facilitate such a disinformation activity and for the sake of accurate information to the public, it is absolutely out of the question for Turkish citizens to be sent 'in groups' or for third-country nationals to be sent to Turkey either collectively or individually, and for Turkish authorities to accept such an application or for an agreement to be signed in this regard."
