HTS HAD BEEN REMOVED FROM THE LIST OF TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS
The U.S. Department of State announced that following the lifting of sanctions against Syria, the terrorist organization Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which was on the list, was removed in July. It was noted that the decision was made in consultation with the U.S. Attorney General and the Secretary of the Treasury, and that the previous decision recognizing HTS as a "Foreign Terrorist Organization" under Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act was revoked.
SANCTIONS ON SYRIA HAD BEEN LIFTED
On June 30, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a presidential decree ending the U.S. sanctions on Syria. The statement said, "President Donald Trump signed a historic presidential decree today to end the sanctions program against Syria in support of the country's path to stability and peace."
The Syrian administration was asked to take concrete steps towards normalizing relations with Israel, to support the U.S. efforts to prevent the resurgence of the terrorist organization ISIS, and to take responsibility for the ISIS detention centers in northeastern Syria.
