The profession that everyone is fleeing from has become: Earning a fortune once a month.

Sadullah Doğançay, who has been working in the construction sector for 35 years in the Sorgun district of Yozgat, stated that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find roofers. Emphasizing that new craftsmen are not being trained in the profession, Doğançay said that existing craftsmen generally prefer to go abroad. Noting that the sector is going through tough times, Doğançay expressed that everyone is turning their noses up at roof replacement work, although the daily wages are quite high.

EARNS 2,500 TL DAILY

“It is possible to earn between 2,000 and 2,500 lira daily. However, despite this, there are no workers,” said Doğançay, adding, “Due to the lack of workers, we are limiting our projects and only taking on those that fit our capacity. If you have a worker, you can work according to your own worker. I am training all three of my sons in this field, and we work together. However, the sector has been facing serious problems for the past few years,” he said.

MONTHLY INCOME 70-75 THOUSAND TL

Despite the income potential in the sector being quite good, Doğançay pointed out that young people are indifferent to the profession, stating, “Our monthly income reaches 70-75 thousand TL. Until 2-3 years ago, our business was very good. However, we are facing difficulties due to issues such as recent increases and labor shortages,” he said.
