According to the report on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by province published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the provinces in Turkey that are experiencing the fastest impoverishment have been identified. Due to high inflation and the credit policies implemented by banks, companies that cannot access cheap financing have declared bankruptcy and insolvency one after another, while the economic contraction has hit small cities the hardest.
The report prepared by TÜİK highlighted 12 cities with negative GDP growth rates. Artvin topped the list, followed by Bayburt and Zonguldak.

The province that contributed the most to the annual GDP increase of 5.1% compared to the previous year, measured by the chained volume index, was Istanbul with 1.65%. Ankara followed with 0.96% and Kocaeli with 0.27%.
