The General Directorate of Tea Enterprises (ÇAYKUR) announced the list it prepared regarding tea consumption habits in Turkey. Although the homeland of tea is the Black Sea region, the report revealed that tea is mostly consumed in the Eastern Anatolia and Southeastern Anatolia regions.
THEY DRINK 50 THOUSAND TONS OF TEA EVERY YEAR
It is estimated that approximately 50 thousand tons of tea are consumed annually in cities such as Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Muş, Diyarbakır, Mardin, Bitlis, and Ağrı. In the regions that consume the most tea, Eastern Anatolia and Southeastern Anatolia, Ceylon tea is predominantly preferred. In these regions, alongside local tea, imported teas are also frequently chosen.
GAZIANTEP IS THE PROVINCE THAT CONSUMES THE MOST TEA
The gastronomic city of Gaziantep ranked first in the list of provinces that consume the most tea in Turkey. Gaziantep is followed by Şanlıurfa, Muş, Diyarbakır, Mardin, Bitlis, and Ağrı in order.
"TEA IS OUR HOBBY"
Gaziantep residents, stating that tea is the indispensable symbol of friendship and conversation, said they start and end their day with tea. A citizen named Mehmet Kılıç said, "Tea is our hobby. We always drink tea after meals. Because we are used to it this way. We have raised our children this way too. We come to the tea house with our friends and chat over tea. We have a hobby for tea. Gaziantep residents love tea. When there is tea, the conversation is also rich."
"TEA IS THE CROWN OF TABLES"
Özkan Hoşaf, who stated that he loves drinking tea, said, "Tea is the crown of all tables. Tea must be consumed after meals. Because tea plays a significant role in the digestive system. Whether at the table or in a friendly environment, if there is no tea, the taste of the table and the conversation is lost. Tea must always be present at the table and in conversations. A person drinks 8-10 cups of tea daily. The more beautiful the society, the better the tea conversations will be."
