In the hearing held in the conference hall of the courthouse by the Bakırköy 22nd High Criminal Court, Dursun Eryılmaz, who is the responsible doctor in the neonatal intensive care unit at Bağcılar Medilife Hospital, also made his defense regarding the deaths of Melek Süleymanoğlu, Öykü Helvacı, Havanur Karakoç, and Ayaz Karaduman babies, for which he is mentioned in the indictment as being responsible.

"I WAS LYNCHED IN THE PRESS"

In his defense, Eryılmaz said, "The Karakoç baby was born in Yalova. It was said that there was decay in its intestines. It was transferred to us by 112 and was admitted. Necessary tests and treatments were administered. Pediatric surgery evaluated the patient. The patient was operated on and was intubated. After observation, feeding was started. The child did not gain weight; it lost weight. The child's intestinal absorption is impaired. This baby also passed away. I was also present at the baby's head. I intubated the baby. I intervened, stabilized it, and it recovered. Then its general condition deteriorated. We performed resuscitation, but it passed away 2 hours later. The police came in the evening. I did not see the police when I arrived later. The police had already left. I was lynched the most by the press regarding the Karakoç baby," he said.

"I WAS NEVER INFORMED"

Regarding the death of the Karaduman baby, defendant Eryılmaz stated, "The baby was born at KSS Training and Research Hospital. Due to respiratory distress and low blood sugar, it was transferred to our hospital via 112. A venous access was established for the patient. Treatment was initiated. While the baby was being admitted, it passed away. Resuscitation lasted for 45 minutes, and there was an on-call doctor at that time. I was never informed. They told me about the incident. This baby also passed away in this way," he said.

COULD NOT REMEMBER THE BABY HE WAS HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR

Dursun Eryılmaz stated, "Melek Süleymanoğlu is a baby I cannot remember. But as far as I understand, the baby comes to us with respiratory distress from another hospital," he said.

CLAIMED HE DID NOT KNOW THE OWNER OF THE COMPANY HE WORKED FOR

In the continuation of his defense, defendant Eryılmaz stated, "My salary was paid by the company. I did not know who the owner of the company was. A few months before my arrest, I saw Fırat Sarı, and he said, 'I took over the operation of this place.' That is how I understood that I was receiving my salary from Fırat Sarı. We do not have a rule that we will write daily epicrises. We were taking notes. We could write them later," he expressed.

The court president asked Eryılmaz about the conversation between İlker Gönen and Çağla Durmuş, which included "Make sure your mouth is the same as Dursun's." The defendant responded to this conversation, saying, "They must have said that because they were nervous since the police came that day."

"THIS QUESTION SHOULD BE ASKED TO THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH"

On the other hand, Eryılmaz's lawyer objected to the question about the "company." The court president did not accept the objection.
