Syrians who fled to Turkey due to the civil war that began in Syria in 2011 continue to prepare to return to their country after the fall of the 61-year Baath regime. After 13 years, Syrian citizens have started to get ready to return to their homeland and lands. The return of Syrians to their country has started to lower rental prices in Reyhanlı district of Hatay, where the population peaked after the earthquake. While there have been declines in the prices of houses for sale reaching 200,000 TL and rental prices reaching 3,000 TL, it is planned that prices will decrease further in the coming period. Real estate agent Yakup Göksu stated that Syrians living in rental apartments have called him to say they will vacate their homes within a few months, and he mentioned that it will become difficult to find buyers and tenants for houses with the return of Syrians to their country.
"A FEW MONTHS AGO, RENTAL PRICES WERE BETWEEN 13,000 AND 14,000 TL, NOW THEY ARE BETWEEN 11,000 AND 12,000 TL"
Real estate agent Yakup Göksu stated that rental prices before the war in Syria were 14,000 TL, while after the war, these prices dropped to 11,000 TL, saying, "A few months ago, rental prices were between 13,000 and 14,000 TL, now they are between 11,000 and 12,000 TL. The return of Syrians to their country has caused prices to drop in the market. We, as real estate agents, are pleased with this situation. It has been an advantage for our citizens living in rental houses. Syrians in our rental apartments and the houses we are authorized for have called to inform us that they will vacate the house within a few months. The Syrian family living in my apartment said they would leave within 2 months. Some Syrians are extending their contracts instead of returning to their country. There are many houses in the market, but it is stagnant because they cannot find buyers. Some Syrians are selling their apartments for 100,000 to 200,000 TL cheaper to return to their country. There has been a general fluctuation and decrease in the market. There have been average decreases of 200,000 TL in islands, parcels, and real estate," he said.
"THESE PRICES WILL DECREASE OVER TIME AFTER OUR SYRIAN CITIZENS RETURN TO THEIR COUNTRY"
Halil Salam, who has been living in a rental house in Turkey for 10 years and will return to his country in 5 months, stated that he was freed from the tyrant Assad on December 8 and that Syria is now free, saying, "We will never forget Turkey, which has been with us since 2011. We thank Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan very much. Because he has been very helpful and supportive in the liberation of Syria. We will not forget the Turkish people for their hospitality and for the hand that the President extended to us. The Assad regime has collapsed, but it left us in ruins. Due to the ruins it left and the harsh weather conditions, we will stay in tents when we return to our country. We will send a family member to the Deir ez-Zor region to renovate the house. We will renovate the houses and return to our country in 5 months. I have been living in a rental house here since 2014. Rental houses were more affordable before the earthquake, but prices increased after the earthquake. Initially, I was paying 2,000 TL, but suddenly it rose to 8,000 TL. This year, I am paying 13,000 TL rent. After our Syrian compatriots return to their country, these prices will decrease over time," he expressed.
