In the last 13 years, over 426,000 properties have been sold to foreigners in Turkey. While the interest of foreigners in purchasing real estate has significantly increased, they preferred Istanbul the most. It is noteworthy that 1 in every 3 properties purchased by foreigners is located in Istanbul. Antalya and Mersin followed Istanbul.
In the last 13 years (2013-2025), more than 426,000 properties have been sold to foreign nationals in Turkey. During this period, the interest of foreigners in the real estate market significantly increased, and Istanbul was the clear leader in numerical terms.
1 IN 3 PROPERTIES PURCHASED BY FOREIGNERS IS IN ISTANBUL
According to the data, Istanbul alone accounted for approximately 38% of the property sales to foreigners, placing it at the top of the list. This rate revealed that one-third of the real estate sold in the city was preferred by foreign buyers.
ANTALYA AND MERSIN FOLLOW ISTANBUL
Among the provinces following Istanbul, Antalya has long been the second most popular center for foreigners, while Mersin ranked third. These three cities stand out as prominent locations for foreign investors purchasing properties in Turkey.
In other notable cities, Ankara, Bursa, Yalova, Sakarya, Trabzon, Aydın, Muğla, İzmir, Samsun, and Kocaeli have also made certain sales of properties to foreigners. Although the sales volumes in these cities are not as high as in Istanbul and Antalya, they indicate that foreign purchases across Turkey have diversified.
When looking at long-term trends, it is evident that foreigners find major city centers and tourism regions attractive for investment; Istanbul and Antalya stand out in both residential and investment purchases. This trend is seen as a reflection of the opportunities that cities can provide, along with their geographical and cultural appeal.
