In the Konak district of İzmir, the statement of the agricultural engineer who was arrested after 1-year-old Altay Toprak Kınalı lost his life due to pesticide sprayed in the apartment for insects sent chills down the spine. In his statement, the engineer said, "Bed bugs do not die any other way. I had warned the neighbors above and below not to enter the building for 3 days. I am very sorry."

In the Konak district of İzmir, two of the three employees of the pest control company who were taken into custody regarding the poisoning incident that led to the death of a baby were arrested. The arrested agricultural engineer stated in his testimony, "Bed bugs do not die any other way. I had warned the upper and lower neighbors not to enter the building for three days. I am very sorry."

ALTAY BABY DIED DUE TO PESTICIDE

On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, pest control was carried out on the 3rd floor of a building in the Kahramanlar neighborhood of the Konak district due to bed bugs. A 1-year-old baby named Altay Toprak Kınalı lost his life. The mother and father, along with some citizens, were also hospitalized.

Little Altay Toprak was laid to rest with tears after the funeral ceremony held at Kahramanlar Mosque. A university student living in the apartment above where the pest control was conducted was also poisoned and was discharged after treatment at the hospital.

2 PEOPLE ARRESTED

In the investigations conducted by the Homicide Bureau of the Public Security Branch, the Crime Analysis Bureau, and the Konak District Police Department, it was determined that Agricultural Engineer B.Ö (47), who was involved in the pest control at the residence, used harmful substances to human health, and this was the cause of the incident. The engineer B.Ö (47), along with his assistants E.G and E.G who facilitated the process, were taken into custody. After the procedures at the Homicide Bureau today, the suspect E.G was released under judicial control, while B.Ö and E.G were arrested and taken to prison.

Meanwhile, the statement of the arrested agricultural engineer B.Ö. has emerged. In his statement, B.Ö. said, "Bed bugs do not die any other way. I had warned the upper and lower neighbors not to enter the building for three days. I am very sorry."
