The second hearing in the murder case of 8-year-old Narin Güran, who was killed in Diyarbakır, continues today. In this incident that deeply shocked Turkey, the detained defendants, mother Yüksel Güran, brother Enes Güran, uncle Salim Güran, and neighbors Nevzat Bahtiyar, are being tried for "intentional murder of a child in complicity" with a request for aggravated life imprisonment.
No decision was announced on the second day of the hearing; the trial will continue tomorrow.
MOTHER GÜRAN WILL SPEAK TOMORROW
It has been reported that detained defendant mother Yüksel Güran will also make her defense in tomorrow's hearing. The decision is expected to be given tomorrow.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The prosecutor read the indictment yesterday, stating that there was no place for good and that all defendants were accomplices. In today's ongoing hearing, it was the turn of the detained defendant brother Enes Güran to defend himself. Güran made striking statements regarding the bite mark on his arm, which has been discussed for days, and like the other defendants, he referred to the main suspect Nevzat Bahtiyar as "He is a killer."
"They told me, 'You will go to prison.' My psychology has deteriorated, brother, no, I am in prison. I am in the detention center, I pressed the bell, I went, I gave my statement. Then they asked me, 'Are you trying to save your own a...?' I said, 'Aren't you going to include what I said in my statement?' They said, 'We won't include it,'" Güran explained the reason for the bruise on his arm.
"I BIT MY OWN ARM"
Güran stated, "As for the bruise on my arm, I bit myself. I do not forgive them, may they be cursed. Even if it doesn't come from them, it will come from their children. If necessary, cut off my head, but do not blame me for Narin's death. The bar president talked about a piece of clothing. I can stay in prison for the rest of my life, but my conscience is clear."
THERE IS AN EXPERT WHO STATES THAT HE IS THE SOURCE
After Enes Güran made his defense against the indictment, his lawyer Mahir Akbilek took the floor. Akbilek stated regarding the expert reports, "There is an expert who states that he is the source. You show your bases, you cannot be the basis. We supervise you this way. But this report shows itself as a basis. We do not even know that you exist, we cannot see you. From our perspective, these are witnesses. Witnesses disguised as experts."
TENSION IN THE HEARING
While Enes Güran's second lawyer Muhammet Fatih Demir was making his defense, an attorney who spoke without taking the floor was requested to be removed from the hall, and another attorney who reacted to this was also removed from the hall. An attorney from the bar responded. The presiding judge stated that he had warned earlier.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
The lifeless body of Narin Güran, who went missing on August 21 in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of the central Bağlar district of Diyarbakır, was found in the Eğertutmaz stream on September 8. Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 12 out of 23 suspects, including mother Yüksel, brother Enes, uncle Salim Güran, and neighbors Nevzat Bahtiyar, were arrested.
The investigation against Yüksel, Enes, and Salim Güran, as well as Nevzat Bahtiyar, has been completed, and the indictment prepared with a request for aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional murder of a child in complicity" was accepted by the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court on October 23. The trial of the defendants began on November 7, and the first hearing, which lasted for 3 days, was postponed to December 26 with a decision to continue the detention of the defendants. After the first hearing, the public prosecutor submitted a 14-page indictment to the court during the recess.
