New details have emerged in the investigation into the death of Can Polat, who served as a bodyguard and driver for Dilan and Engin Polat, in an armed attack in the Çeşme district of Izmir. It was determined that Serhat A., who was detained in connection with the incident, conducted reconnaissance around the hotel before committing the murder. Meanwhile, it was learned that Engin Polat stated in his testimony that they had been threatened by the organized crime group 'Daltonlar' for approximately two years.
Engin Polat's statement has emerged regarding the armed attack killing Can Polat, the cousin and bodyguard of the Dilan-Engin Polat couple in Izmir.
SHOT WHILE CHECKING OUT OF THE HOTEL The incident occurred around 2:00 PM yesterday on 13003 Street in Alaçatı neighborhood. Can Polat, 37, who worked as a bodyguard and driver for social media phenomenon Dilan Polat and was also the cousin of her husband Engin Polat, was shot by Serhat A. While Can Polat lay on the ground covered in blood, medical and police teams were dispatched to the scene following a report. Injured in the armed attack as he stepped outside to prepare his vehicle to leave the accommodation facility, Can Polat was taken to Çeşme State Hospital by ambulance after initial treatment. However, despite all efforts by doctors, Can Polat could not be saved. Police teams launched an operation to apprehend the suspect, Serhat A., believed to have fled the area by car after the attack. Shortly after, Serhat A. was captured and taken into custody along with the weapon used in the incident.
Meanwhile, Dilan Polat removed the video she shared on her social media account, in which she tearfully recounted the events, shortly after posting it.
ATTACK MOMENT CAPTURED ON CAMERA Additionally, the moment Can Polat was shot was recorded second by second by a security camera at a workplace. The footage shows Polat falling to the ground after being hit by bullets, then getting up and entering the hotel, as well as the assailant fleeing. It was noted that some children in the vicinity escaped the incident unharmed.
ACTED LIKE A CUSTOMER AROUND THE HOTEL AND CONDUCTED RECONNAISSANCE As part of the investigation, it was learned that the suspect Serhat A. had been around the hotel for a long time before the incident and conducted reconnaissance by spending time at nearby businesses pretending to be a customer before carrying out the murder.
'WE ARE BEING THREATENED' CLAIM Engin Polat's statement regarding the incident has also emerged. It was learned that Polat said in his statement that Can Polat was his uncle's son and worked for him as a driver. Polat reportedly stated that they had been vacationing at the hotel for about two days, had been threatened by the organized crime group known as 'Daltonlar' for about two years, and had previously given statements to the police about this. It was also learned that Polat said they were not involved in any incident during their vacation in Çeşme, did not receive any threats, and did not suspect they were being followed. Serhat A.'s processing at the police station continues.
