The statement of mother-in-law Menekşe K., who killed her son's religiously married wife, 25-year-old Burçin Şahin, by shooting her in the head in Şişli, where her son has been in prison for 6 years, has emerged. The mother-in-law, who allegedly smoked a cigarette for a while after the murder, claimed in her statement that her daughter-in-law was cheating on her son, saying, 'I asked, 'How could you do this?' She gave a below-the-belt answer and said, 'I will do it.' I got angry and opened fire.'
In the Eskişehir neighborhood of Istanbul's Şişli district, a blood-curdling incident occurred yesterday around 13:00. According to information obtained, Haydarcan K. was in prison for theft, while his religiously wedded wife Burçin Şahin (25) lived with her mother-in-law Menekşe K. (58). During an argument at home for an unknown reason, Menekşe K. fired two shots at Burçin Şahin's head with her unlicensed gun.
KILLED HER DAUGHTER-IN-LAW
Upon notification, police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. Medical teams determined that Burçin Şahin had lost her life. Teams examining the scene found 2 empty casings outside and 4 empty casings inside the house. It was learned that the deceased Şahin had two children.
CALLED IT AN "HONOR ISSUE" AND SMOKED AFTER THE MURDER
It was alleged that after the murder, the suspect went to the window, said "I killed my daughter-in-law, I cleaned my honor," and smoked for a while. It was learned that Menekşe K., taken into custody by police, stated in her initial statement that the incident was an "honor issue."
CLAIMED HER DAUGHTER-IN-LAW CHEATED ON HER SON
It was learned that the suspect, whose son had been in prison for 6 years, suspected her religiously wedded daughter-in-law Burçin Şahin of cheating on her son. On the day of the incident, seeing messages on her phone increased her suspicions, and she became angry, firing 2 shots at her head with the gun at home.
"I SAID, YOU HAVE CHILDREN, AREN'T YOU ASHAMED?"
In the continuation of Menekşe K.'s statement, it was learned she said: "How can you cheat on my son? My son is in prison. You have children, aren't you ashamed?" Then her siblings took the children and left; we were alone at home. I said, 'How can you do this?' and she gave me a low blow by replying, 'I will do it.' Then I got angry, took the gun from the cabinet, and fired."
MOTHER-IN-LAW HAD A 6 YEAR 8 MONTH PRISON SENTENCE FOR DRUGS
Police teams apprehended suspect Menekşe K. with the unlicensed gun used in the incident. While the suspect, taken to the Şişli Public Order Bureau, was undergoing procedures at the police station, an investigation into the incident was launched. It was also learned that Menekşe K. had a finalized 6-year 8-month prison sentence for drug trafficking.
