The statement of Pınar Peyman Mersinli, the mother of 14-year-old İsa Aras Mersinli, who caused the death of 9 people in a armed attack on a secondary school in Kahramanmaraş and was arrested on charges of "causing death by negligence," has emerged. Mother Mersinli denied allegations that she rejected treatment for her son and did not take the recommendations of psychologists and guidance counselors seriously, despite his need for medical support.

In her statement, Mother Mersinli reportedly said, "First and foremost, I am an educator as well as a mother. Therefore, I have the education, knowledge, and experience to know how a mother should behave towards her child. I am very sorry for what happened."
"THE WEAPONS WERE NOT WITHIN MY SON'S REACH"
Regarding the weapons kept at home, Mersinli stated, "The presence of multiple weapons at home is entirely related to the fact that my husband is a police chief. However, these weapons were definitely not left out in the open where my son could easily access them. They were stored in a chest. He could only look at them under his father's supervision and go shooting with him."
"I WAS TAKING THE NECESSARY CARE FOR HIS TREATMENT"
According to a report by Özgür Cebe from Nefes; the mother responded to allegations that she did not take the necessary recommendations regarding her son, saying, "The reports and contents kept by the psychiatry clinic regarding my son's treatment process at health institutions are accurate. This is proof of how responsible we were towards him. However, I do not accept the allegations that we rejected treatment and did not take these recommendations into account despite his need for medical support."
"CHIEF PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE: MOTHER DID NOT TAKE RECOMMENDATIONS INTO ACCOUNT"
In a statement from the Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the arrest of the school attacker İsa Aras Mersinli's mother, Peyman Pınar Mersinli, it was stated that the mother did not take into account the diagnoses and recommendations of child psychiatrists at outpatient clinics where the attacker was taken on different dates before the incident, indicating a need for treatment, and said:
"All information and documents regarding the identification of the health problems of the perpetrator, İsa Aras Mersinli, as reflected in the file, have been obtained from the relevant health institutions. As a result of the examination of these documents, it has been determined that although two psychologists working at two different institutions, one public and one private, made diagnoses and recommendations before the incident that İsa Aras Mersinli needed treatment at a child psychiatry outpatient clinic, the mother, P.P.M., did not take the doctor's recommendations into account and did not apply to the relevant psychiatry outpatient clinics for such medical support, thereby showing negligence in her responsibilities regarding the treatment of the psychological disorders that are considered to have caused the perpetrator to commit the acts of killing and injuring. In this regard, by the Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspect P.P.M. has been referred to the Duty Criminal Court of Peace with a request for arrest, considering the negligent act in the specific incident and the gravity of the resulting outcome. As a result of the interrogation by the Kahramanmaraş Duty Criminal Court of Peace, it was decided to arrest P.P.M., and the suspect was handed over to the penal institutions."
