The experiences of 21-year-old kidney patient Ceren Koç, who participated in "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" broadcast on ATV with the presentation of Oktay Kaynarca, made a significant impact on the competition.
"I WENT TO THE HOSPITAL WITH A HEADACHE AND LEARNED I HAD LOST MY KIDNEYS"
Ceren Koç, a third-year student of Psychological Counseling and Guidance at Trakya University, stated that she has been struggling with kidney failure for a while and is waiting for a transplant. She said, "I am waiting for an organ transplant. I am currently in the dialysis process. I was actually supposed to have a transplant; I had the opportunity, but my transplant was canceled on the day of the surgery. I learned about my illness much later. Before the schools opened, I went to the hospital with complaints of high blood pressure and severe headaches. Suddenly, I learned that I had lost 80% of my kidneys. A hospital admission, medications, surgeries… such an adventure began. During that process, my mother was helpless on her own and needed someone's help. She had contacted someone to ensure that we wouldn't be left alone," she said.
"MY FATHER HAS ANOTHER FAMILY, WE HAVEN'T MET FOR 20 YEARS"
The contestant, who stated that she reunited with her father, whom she hadn't seen for 20 years, during her illness, said, "Until that time, I had never seen my father. We weren't in contact. He has another family. He never wanted to meet anyway. I was living with my grandmother and my mother at that time as long as I could remember," she said.
"I FORGAVE MY FATHER WHEN I SAW HIM IN THE HOSPITAL"
Ceren Koç continued her words in response to the question, "Did you ever ask your mother and grandmother if they were curious about your father?": "Of course, when I was little. Emotional moments were experienced on Father's Day. Sometimes, I felt the absence of a father, but I had learned to be happy with my mother and grandmother. That's why I never questioned it. Because my mother was enough for me. I never questioned it externally. I always questioned it internally, but I didn't feel the need. Because my mother never made me feel that absence. So, until he came to the hospital, I couldn't accept it at that moment, but the fear of death that the illness brought… who am I challenging? That's why I thought there is no one I can't forgive. I forgave him at that time."
"MY FATHER BACKED OUT OF GIVING HIS KIDNEY ON THE DAY OF THE SURGERY"
Ceren Koç stated that her father had undergone the necessary tests to give her his kidney but backed out on the day of the surgery. She said, "He backed out of giving his kidney afterward. After accepting that he wouldn't give it, I never felt sad for myself. My mother had tissue compatibility issues, and there was blood incompatibility. That's why I was more upset about my mother's helplessness. I didn't feel sad for myself. Despite everything, life is very beautiful. At least there is an opportunity like dialysis," she said.
KAYNARCA: YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT LIFE WILL BRING
Oktay Kaynarca, who spoke about Ceren Koç, who deeply affected everyone with her story, said, "You never know what life will bring or take away. Looking at the issue correctly starts to change many things after a while. Let's hope for good things; I hope good things will happen," he expressed.
