As the ongoing collective bargaining negotiations between the General Labor Union affiliated with DİSK and the Social Democratic Public Employers Union (SODEMSEN) representing the municipality at Buca could not reach an agreement, the workers initiated a strike.

STREETS FILLED WITH GARBAGE

On the second day of the strike, work came to a halt in almost all units of the municipality. Due to the workers being on strike, garbage was not collected throughout the district, leading to piles of trash forming around garbage containers and on the streets.

"NOBODY CARES ABOUT IZMIR"

Hanife Ekim, a resident of Buca, stated that the bill for the disagreement fell on İzmir, saying, "Both those who leave and those who come are the same. Nobody cares about İzmir. I don't know why they are sitting in that chair. Every place in the EVKA-1 neighborhood is also filled with garbage," she said.
