In Istanbul, a 21-year-old suspect, assessed to be linked to the armed terrorist organization ISIS and planning a terrorist attack in Turkey, opened fire on police during an operation in Sultanbeyli. The suspect was neutralized by police teams, and one civilian was injured during the incident.
Teams from the Istanbul Provincial Police Department's Anti-Terrorism Branch Directorate, in coordination with the Intelligence Branch Directorate, conducted an operation against the armed terrorist organization ISIS. During the efforts, an operation was carried out in Sultanbeyli to capture B.C. (21), who was assessed to be linked to the terrorist organization and planning a terrorist attack in Turkey.
OPENED FIRE AT POLICE
During the operation, when the suspect B.C. opened fire, the police responded. In the ensuing clash, the suspect was neutralized. It was reported that 1 civilian was also injured during the incident. It was stated that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
STATEMENT FROM ISTANBUL GOVERNORSHIP
In a statement regarding the issue from the Istanbul Governorship, it was stated: "In the efforts carried out by the Istanbul Provincial Police Department's Anti-Terrorism Branch Directorate, in coordination with the Intelligence Branch Directorate, an operation was carried out in Sultanbeyli to capture the individual named Berkan C. (21), who was assessed to be linked to the armed terrorist organization ISIS and planning a terrorist attack in our country. When the suspect opened fire at our duty police officers, they responded, and the suspect Berkan C. was neutralized. During this time, one of our citizens was injured. The investigation into the matter continues."
