The third meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission will be held on Thursday at 11:30. The commission, which holds four meetings each year, was expected to announce the net figure in three meetings this year. However, the lack of any figure being determined in the second meeting has strengthened the possibility that the process will extend to four meetings.

Discussions are ongoing for the minimum wage for the year 2025. The second meeting took place yesterday (December 16, Monday) hosted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. The discussions started at 14:30 and ended at 15:30. Turkish Labor Union Vice President Ramazan Ağar stated after the meeting, "I do not think the process will be prolonged."

The date for the 3rd meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission has also been announced. The commission will convene on Thursday at 11:30. Although there are different demands from the employee and employer sides regarding the minimum wage, the decision made by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission is binding. The commission will make the final decision after four meetings. The amount of the minimum wage for 2025 will be shaped based on the discussions held in these meetings and economic data. The third meeting will be one of the most critical stages of this process.

WHEN WILL IT BE ANNOUNCED?

It was discussed that the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which holds 4 meetings each year, could announce the net figure in 3 meetings this year. However, the lack of any figure being determined in the second meeting strengthened the possibility that the process would extend to four meetings.

CRITICAL PERIOD FOR MINIMUM WAGE

The Minimum Wage Determination Commission aims to determine the new minimum wage and share it with the public by December 31. During this process, representatives from the employee, employer, and government will continue their negotiations based on economic data.

HOW IS THE MINIMUM WAGE DETERMINED?

The minimum wage is determined by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which consists of 15 members, with five representatives each from the employee, employer, and government, as required by law. The commission meets on the dates determined in December as part of its work to determine the new minimum wage. The commission, chaired by one of the members designated by the ministry, convenes with the participation of at least 10 members and makes decisions by majority vote. In the event of a tie, the majority is considered to be on the side of the president.

CURRENT MINIMUM WAGE NET 17 THOUSAND 2 LIRA

The minimum wage is currently applied as a gross monthly amount of 20 thousand 2 lira and 50 kuruş for a worker, and net 17 thousand 2 lira and 12 kuruş after deductions. The total cost of the minimum wage to the employer is 23 thousand 502 lira and 94 kuruş for one worker. Of this, 20 thousand 2 lira and 50 kuruş is the gross minimum wage, 3 thousand 100 lira and 39 kuruş is the social security premium, and 400 lira and 5 kuruş is the employer's unemployment insurance fund.
